Prof. Grete Hovelsrud has been recently elected as the new Academy president for the period 2018 -2020. She is the first woman to assume this position in the Academy’s 10 years of history.

10 year’s anniversary activities in Longyearbyen
The Academy will celebrate ten years anniversary Longyearbyen between the 4th and 07th of June with a series of activities organized in cooperation with the The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, UNIS, UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and Nord University.
Secrets of a Frozen Ocean - Best Documentary at the New York International Film Festival 2018
“Secrets of A Frozen Ocean” follows 75 year old, Yngve Kristoffersen, a Norwegian Scientist and member of the Academy who sets out on a dangerous 13-month expedition in a small hovercraft (R/H SABVABAA) together with Audun Tholfsen.
Daily reports from the GoNorth Expeditions
The GoNorth consortium has proposed a wide-ranging and cross-disciplinary program to acquire new and essential knowledge about the oceanic areas, from the sea floor and subsea geology, through the water column, to the surface sea ice. Education will be an important part of the program.
