Birgitta Evengård is senior professor of infectious diseases at the Dept of Clinical Microbiology, Umeå University. She has many years experience of being a senior Consultant in infectious diseases at the University hospital. She was a Member of the Arctic Human Health Expert group 2008-2015, chair 2011-13 when Sweden chaired the Arctic Council. She was Chair of ARCUM, Arctic Research Center at Umeå University 2012-2016. Since 2016, member National Committee for Global Environmental Change at the Swedish Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. She is Principal Investigator for the Nordic Center of Excellence funded by Nordforsk under the Arctic program: ‘Responsible Development in the North, 2016-2021. > 135 publications in peer-reviewed journals, author/editor of 11 books, the last The New Arctic, Springer 2015, the author of 22 chapters. Citation index >6000. The focus of her research has been infectious diseases in diagnostics, epidemiology and clinical findings with a focus since 2007 on Arctic issues on health in a changing climate in the North.
